30 Days of music meme

I have neglected this a while so...

Day 11 - a song from your favorite band "Stretch Out and Wait" by The Smiths. The Smiths are unquestionably my favourite of all bands and this has become one of my favourite songs of theirs. Something about the line "Will the world end in the nighttime I really don't know, or will the world end in the daytime I really don't know." -*cries* It just speaks to such a relaxed and open mood. A sheer liberty is just loose in it's melody in it's words. A heartbreakingy elusive type of liberty.

LOL THE PICTURE OF MOZ WITH A MONACLE A FEW PICS IN. I LOVE FAN VIDS - THIS IS WHY. Some nice pictures in there otherwise. The shot of Mozzer young with long hair r makes him look like Henry Thomas.

Day 12 - a song from a band you hate
For some reason I cannot warm at all, even slightly to Queen. They make me want to yack. It's not that I dislike their music though, although of course none of it particularly gladdens me either. Personal and irrational.

I actually quite like this song, how? I don't really like the sentiment but somehow it's moving to me. My friend does a killer version of it at karaoke. TRU FAXX.

Day 13 - a song that is a guilty pleasure
"Run for your Life" by The Beatles
For the most part I fundamentally disagree with being guilty for liking music. I think it's because often the issue is placed in terms of being guilty of liking something that others have prescribed not cool and I don't care for other people's assertions of cool, or at the very least I care more about the music and the feelings of joy it gives than about other people's assertions of cool.

I began to therefore think of the issue instead in terms of songs with shameful sentiments which you find yourself liking for it's music despite yourself.

This song is a prime example of a song I wish I didn't like. It's intensely despicable - see also "You Like Me Too Much", also by the Beatles. I have read that Lennon intended it as some elaboration of "Baby Let's Play House", by Elvis, the lyric, "I'd rather see you dead little girl than to be with another man" is stolen from that song after all and it would seem some attempt to write a song from the perspective of that protaganist, and it is probably horrifying just as an attempt to point out how horrifying the protaganist in the Elvis song was?

But then I also read that Lennon later disowned it - perhaps realising that he was being lol edgy?

Either way it's horrid and yet jaunty.  I like it.

Day 14 - a song that no one would expect you to love
"Two Can Play At that Game" by Bobby Brown. I would imagine that I am not someone that others have expectations about because I am hardly a consistent person, or maybe just that I am too disinterested in other people's opinions of me to notice them. Either way I have no clue what other people would expect me to love.

However I remember once when I was writing Morrissey slash I mentioned in the Music part that I was listening to this song (I LOVE IT) and a person (a complete stranger mind you) rather rudely/mock humourously commented on my fic that maybe I should stop listening to it, as if it was somehow unholy for someone who loved the Smiths as much as I did to also like this song.

People's minds are amusing. This song is ace.
