Oh my its been snowing for hours now. Now this wouldn't perhaps be unusual for some places but I think it's the heaviest that I can recall it being here. Ah apparently it's
the worse snow for 18 years...
And in response everything has fallen to pieces and by that I mean that there is absolutely no bus service across the entire of Brighton and Hove. Apparently there has been none in London either...and no tubes in London.
LOL FAIL AT THE FIRST HURDLE SOUTH OF ENGLAND.
I am so very happy that I went into work yesterday (just before the snow started) and found out that I was on holiday because it means no pissing about trying to get somewhere for me, I can just watch it fall outside the window cocooned in my blankeys.
Bliss.
Although am I really glad that I am on holiday? Because I mean let's face it the way things are going I would have had the night off work anyway just because I wouldn't be able to get there.
Waste of a holiday?
I am so going to spend the rest of today looking at old pictures of Brighton. I don't know why I find it so interesting but I will say that after I spent all evening looking at pictures of Hodshrove Farm which is the farm that the Moulsecoomb estate was built on I felt so totally dispensible somehow. Nothing is more calming that seeing the total removable nature of an entire way of life, it makes me slowly feel like relaxing to change. I can see the advantages of the development that was done.
However I am very aware that I draw the line.
I did also look at lots of plans tht have been put to Brighton Council to build lots of new tower blocks all over the place and although most have had their permission blocked so far the fact that they would try in the first place is so fucking irritating to me. For instance there was a proposal put on the old Children's hospital for it to be turned into a big block of flats. This is a Georgian building and apparently only 30% were going to be affordable housing so the rest was going to be yet more overpriced flats for the very rich to buy and live in.
AND THEY WONDER WHY THIER PROPOSAL GETS REJECTED?
There is a similar proposal going on with regards to the Marina too, which is a far more modern creation and admittedly one that could do with a bit of a rethink as none of the shops down there get much bidness - well apart from me and apparently I don't count. However I don't know what is up with the mentality that thinks the best thing to do in that circumstance is to just put ugly tower blocks up that would provide substandard living for the occupants by giving them views of a fucking cliff face whilst being so tall that it would destroy the current view of the sea from the cliff for anyone who should want to partake of it.
It's just this desperate desire to make money and without consideration for anyone who actually enjoys nature or for the inhabitants of these money making schemes.
I mean of course this proposal was rejected because you can't build anything higher than the cliff face apparently but they were allowed planning permission to build a slightly shorter set of buildings there instead...
WHICH SUXX!!!
Thankfully they aren't starting on it yet because of the economic climate though. YAY.
Another thing not being built because of that is the development of the King Alfred's Leisure Centre which was for a time going to look like this....
Is that not the ugliest set of buildings, now imagine that with all the oldey worldey buildings of the Brighton seafront surrounding it and that it will be full of high rent apartments again for the very rich to live in and enjoy whilst blocking out a good portion of the sea view in that area for everyone else and it becomes even more nauseating.
Another thing which irritates is that the comment of the architect who designed it.
Gehry, 79, has made it clear what he thinks of those who oppose "icons". "They're part of the reason that things are ugly, but they don't realise it," he said. "Through history, public buildings are iconic and if we want less we have no self-esteem. We might as well go back to the caves. If you add up how many iconic buildings have been built recently, how many are there? 50? 100? It's nothing. So people can fuck off." Ah so he's totes going for the charm offensive there to turn people around rite.
LOL
Seriously I think he thinks that he invented penicillin instead of drew pictures of wierd shaped buildings. The stench of self importance is overpowering and although at the beginning my opposition wasn't personally directed towards him at all, now I am so glad that this arrogant cunt has been prevented from doing what he wants...
It's childish but I'm like nur nur NO YOU CAN FUCK OFF.
I'm also upset because they are gonna build a massive football stadium right ontop of these gorgeous wheat fields that I used to see when I took the bus to Uni. I need to get up there before they do it. Get some pictures. It was just so beautiful in the summer sun and the fuck does Brighton need more fucking traffic on Saturdays...:(
I just think that I don't like change at all.
It will happen anyway of course.
I should just look at moar Hodshrove Farm pictures. Remember that not everything is bad it's just different. Even though the Farms and nature was pretty before people need houses.
I should think of this and not look at
this page which has sections based upon the Regency/Victorian and Modern architecture of the town, because all the older buildings are just so much prettier and that isn't based upon fear of change because the modern buildings aren't so modern and most have been there since before I was born, it's just that the older buildings are far faaaar prettier.
People cared less about utilitarian designs and made them all ornate and pretty and I mean sure not everything can be pretty but certainly most things can be...
I tell you that I am looking forward to the new Ice Skating Rink at Black Rock it's just a patch of land there now although I suspect that it will mean the end of the Volk's Railway which would make me sad. Another thing I'm excited about is the
i360 tower that they are planning to build where the West Pier once was. I dunno if I would ever have the courage to go up it but it
Anyway back to Hodshrove Faaaaarm.
