Not time for serious debate
Just distracted by shiny pretty things of late
Isn't there a point where looking back in your towns history you realise that you really really wish you lived here in another era....
There is a very cool Brighton and Hove site that I'm sure you will care about even less that you will care about this entry....but still it is a site full of oldey photos. I have rambled about it before...
Through there though I have discovered that apparently there was an sea tram down the sea front between 1895 - 1901... It made a short journey from one side of the sea front to the other over the sea at apparently walking pace - which is easily at least a 20 minute ride...and it was perfectly safe and only got taken down because the council wanted to build more groynes which meant parts of the track had to be got rid of....
the tram at sea c. 1900
Despite the fact that I cannot fathom for the life of me how it works....(regardless of the many lovingly complicated descriptions on the site.) Regardless of the fact that I was always brought up to think that electricity and water don't mix all that safely together . (I don't fathom this electric tram car gliding about anywhere near water) I would still kill to go on that now...I am so jealous of those people on it, it must have been an excellent treat...
Failing going back to that era, after all if I was on the boat I would now be quite dead I suppose I would settle for going back to the seventies...to the time when the Pavillion illuminations changed colour every so often....like this....
Brighton Pavillion, c. 1971
TO THIS
Because they are much better than the boring white lights they have now -
Brighton Pavillion c. 2005
As in this tres smudgy (shit camera) pic taken by me...
I am also jealous that the Victoria fountain down the way from the Pavillion also used to be illuminated by coloured lights and once looked like this...
It looks so shitty now even at night *sigh*
So in essence my assertion is that there should be more coloured lights on Brighton landmarks!! Do you think thats a silly thing to compose a petition about?? *sigh I already know the answer* but the thing is I don't care...
It wouldn't cost the council much more for a coupla coloured bulbs every now and again would it? A small price to pay for making childish adults like me very happy....I mean what would it hurt?? Why did they get rid of it?? and is there anyway I as an ordinary Brighton citizen can induce them to bring it back?
Anyway back off to look at creepy old pictures of familiar streets its the most fun I've had...and I don't care if anyone finds it sad...
