My favorite Pixar movie has always been A Bug's Life, for reasons which were unclear to me to me for a long time. I mean, the villain is cool, and I like insects better than toys or fish or monsters, but it's not quite Pixar's finest work, although it's very good. All became clear to me a couple of weeks ago, when I discovered that A Bug's Life is actually a remake of one of my favorite movies ever, Akira Kurosawa's The Seven Samurai. Even stranger, I saw The Seven Samurai after I saw A Bug's Life. Go figure.
