Study and Visualization

I'm really impressed that visualization can actually work. In Anatomy, we learned that the ties with physical and mental 'work' aren't all that great. Our teacher used the example of tennis. He took a hypothetical tennis player practicing for a tournament and said that in training, one has to STOP when the form gets physically sloppy and that if one doesn't, the sloppy backhand gets burned into the brain rather than the good form.

When the trainee stops after getting burned out on the physical, that visualization of the PERFECT form is still useful. It's to be kept in mind and gone over and over again. The brain in the areas that cover PHYSICAL movement light up even when just THINKING about the good form they used at the beginning of practice, so it's not like the 'work' stops when they are done physically training.

While this should have likely gone under the 'school' filter, it's also something I'm working on applying to all areas. I finally sat my butt down and went over the first chapter we're supposed to study on the brain. The instructor suggested putting these ideas to use in our studying. I imagined myself reading at the library and did it. Not for as long as I should have, but I did it. It's a start. Even when I get A's, I'm a horrible student and am trying to undo years of bad study habits. Bad life habits as well. A step forward is a step forward. I'll take what I can get.

Lastly, I thought I was going to be priced out of my apartment. I was on my way to work and saw a note taped to my door. My heart sinks when I see these things, as it generally mean impending doom and/or people invading my space. These amount to the same thing for me. Panic and cleaning and being ANGRY at paying the overpriced rent to have folks come in when they want. Makes me ornery and feel helpless and angry. At any rate, the note said that rent would be raised by $40. This doesn't sound like much, but when you're working on a shoestring to begin with, let me tell you: it's a TON of cash that has to be shifted around. I went to the office, as I wanted to know if the lease we had signed was now null and void with the new management (4th change of management in the 3 years since we've been here). I was told the notices were an error, so I don't have to move. This is good news. I still want to be out of here by next spring, though. At that point, I KNOW they will raise the rent.

Back to reading and studying. Finishing 'Snow Crash'. Finishing 'Devil in White City'. Will soon start 'Huey: Spirit of the Panther' and 'Bessie', a bio of Bessie Smith. Chapter 12 of the section of Anatomy on the brain will be done by Monday as well. I get random TV fixes from the internet lately. And Netflix. Moderation -- even in moderation. Yay! TV =/= my life! That is all for now. I keep forgetting about voice posts. I may do another one soon...
