Wow - first off, I spelled Cusack without the 'c' in the last post.  I think there's a fine for that if you live in the Chicago area.

I sorted out my art supplies today and I found a little canvas I bought on impulse and never used.  I started playing around and the result is pretty cool.  I started with several layers of paint that get progressively lighter, from dark brown to plum purple to sage green and finally a champagne beige.  Since it's light pigment over dark, the coverage isn't  complete so a little of each layer shows through and becomes sort of a textured background.  I cut out an abstract design in posterboard, pinned it place and then smeared the green paint over it - when I took the template away it left the the negative image.  I edged the whole thing in the same green, and then used q-tips and the rim of a glass as stamps and then played connect the dots with a fine brush to add a fine network of random pattern over the whole thing in red and purple.  The final result is kind of abstract and decorative, but it looks a bit like a Native American textile or distressed Deco wall panel.  I'm definitely going to try this technique again - maybe something with a William Morris vibe for my parents.  Christmas is coming.

Christmas is coming!  I love fall and am enjoying the weather and leaves, but Christmas is my favorite time of year.  I'm already psyched to deck the halls.  (I have the next two years somewhat planned out already - is that sick?  Don't answer.)  This year is acid/apple greens with gold.  I found some really great stuff on clearance last year and I've done variations on red for a few years running.  It's going to look great - elegant and funky.

Oh, and since I'm on a Martha Stewart kick, I cooked for the week.  I also bought a $10,000 dollar cake stand at Sotheby's and beat my personal assistant to death with a Merlot bottle.  Lunch this week will be spicy turkey sausage, spinach, white beans, and a Arrabiata sauce, with a salad of cucumber, cherry tomatoes, and sweet orange pepper.  I have fruit and raw veggies for snacks.  Ok, now I have to dig a grave for the body.  The decomposition with fertilize my Japanese maples - it's a good thing.
