I have Selected Insomniac - A Song for solo Baritone on the poem of the same name by sylvia plath

(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matthew_Dewey) I chose this song to find and discuss

because sylvia plath is an amazing poet and the poem Insomniac is actually one of my favorite poems ( after having to assist a friend of mine in an

analysis on sylvia plaths work, last semester...)and I was intrested to hear how her ingenious words would sound set to the music of someone like

Matthew Dewey, let alone excited just to see that my poem actually had music to go along with it . Needless to say, I was not let down. I thought that the

peice Insomniac was a good representative of Deweys musical styles. The lyrics tend to flow along with everything. The meaning behind the poem is

conveyed not only through the words but through the music. I believe that without the music, the picture would still be vivid in my mind.

"The night is only a sort of carbon paper,

Blueblack, with the much-poked periods of stars

Letting in the light, peephole after peephole . .

.
A bonewhite light, like death, behind all things

.
Under the eyes of the stars and the moon's rictus

He suffers his desert pillow, sleeplessness

Stretching its fine, irritating sand in all directions." -Sylvia Plath. Music by: Matthew Ingvald Dewey.
