Someone decided to nag me to post in my livejournal.
Since I actually like this person, I am posting something.
Hopefully it's a little interesting to those of you who haven't read it before.
I love having adventures, and adventures to me are basically anything outside the scope of normal everyday activities.
I once sang the National Anthem at the AFL Grand Final with Marina Prior, for instance. And I mean, I was on the hallowed MCG ground next to her, not just in the crowd. :)
I’ve watched “Friends” on a tiny little black and white tv, in a ger in the Mongolian wilderness, with Ross and Rachael arguing in Mongolian, while I drank fermented mares milk (yuk btw).
I’ve seen the New Zealand countryside from the back of a motorbike. Witnessed a group bashing of my tour bus driver by a gang of Chinese thugs at the bottom of one of the Sacred Mountains of China. Driven a Diesel train around Lake Baikal (and almost missed pressing the keep alive button, which would have brought the whole train to a shuddering halt). Survived Hong Kong at the peak of the SARS epidemic. Witnessed a “perfect moment” as the sun set over the rocks in the three gorges of the Yangtze river. I got Neil Gaiman and Wil Wheaton to tweet about the Australian bushfire appeals. I’ve caught a fish with my bare hand. Petted a Giant Panda. I’ve played Pass the Pigs with a group of twenty German schoolkids while on a ferry down the Rhine. Been inside Anne Franks attic. Crashed a car, and felt lucky to have walked away. Been on an airplane dumping fuel so it could re-land at the airport it just took off from when a serious fault was discovered soon after take-off. I’ve shaken the hand of Dylan Moran. Changed my name legally, not once but twice, the first time to win points in a University Scavenger Hunt, the second to restore my old name. I’ve helped out on the set of a Jackie Chan movie. I’ve met Steve Jackson, hero to many nerds across the world. And I’ve played online board games against James Ernest, hero to many a board game geek.
Really, I feel like I’ve had a few crazy adventures, but I always want to have more.
