Tomorrow should be interesting...I am giving 7 hours of hand drumming clinics at some festival in Riverside. I guess its similar to what the "taste of brea" type of thing is...music, food ect and my music school is sponsoring the event. Ill be set up in a booth giving free classes to anybody who wants them from 10-5. Call my cell if youd like to drop on by...should be a lot of fun...

I got several emails from my students expressing how much they enjoyed the adult hand drumming classes I taught...something you rarley get when teaching younger guys. It was a 3 week session that I took over part of the way through. Mostly moms and older interested people. It was a blast. Thought id share one of the emails:

"Hey Teach!

Just wanted to drop a note to thank you for those most enjoyable hand drumming classes. This last Wednesday's class was really fun and I found myself more caught up in awe more than anything. Sort of like the first time I saw the drum circle at Venice Beach. Made me wish we still had at least a couple of more weeks to go.

Just as a heads up, there were (9) students in the class on the first night. When the teacher informed us that we would be skipping the following week (as he had to be out of town), there were quite a few students who were very disappointed and advised they would be dropping. Since it was only (3) sessions, it did seem quite odd and plans they'd made based on completion in (3) weeks versus (4). The original instructor spent a lot of time on reading music, notes, etc. with little time drumming. I found him to be doing a lot of back-tracking during his lecture, which confused most of the class. I believe most of us came into the class thinking we'd just be drumming away for 1-1/2 hours.

I did learn to appreciate the importance of knowing those basics you taught us in note reading, counts and measures.

I have to compliment you on your teaching. You may not believe it coming from me, but you were very clear and patient, not to mention very knowledgeable.

Maybe being put on the spot isn't my forte, but I need to tell you that I do practice - long enough to where my hands hurt!!! Late enough (midnight) where my husband has to remind me to be quiet and that I have to work in the morning.

It would be very cool if a continuation course were offered and the students that had already taken at least 1 course be personally invited through PCC's database. Is that possible?

Thank you very much again and keep on playing like nobody's watching. (I know, it's supposed to be 'dancing like nobody's watching').

Best regards,
Cathy Vasquez
