700 Billion bail out? No. Try a 7 Trillion dollar BUY out. The government should perches these businesses, make them federal. Problems? More then a few. Benefits? Well, suddenly, everyone’s investments become insured, and are subject to government oversights. FDIC on a massive scale for IRA’s that has been invested into over the last five decades. Also? The government needs more money. Instead of only enabling it to make money through taxes, how about they have their own businesses to wield? I’m sure there would be a lot of problems, but I think they could be overcome.

College. Let’s face it- in today’s world, we all need it. Everyone wants the European system of free college, and I think that America could make it happen- in a way inspired by the ROTC scholarship program. You want a degree? No problem! You do federal service. The IRS, teachers, police, medics, firemen, the five branches of the military, city planners, DA officers etc. etc. etc, there are hundreds of thousands of jobs which need to be done to make this nation WORK. Now, on the one hand- it would suck to have a 4 to 8 year obligation to work for the government… on the other- free college, and job security promise! Hell, I’d even say that for some of the degree programs, do your federal time first- grow up, become a person, learn life lessons and develop life skills before hitting the books. Tired of school and getting seniorietes? Well, instead of sending you to a frat house to eek your way through college in a drunken haze- we’ll make you a part of the real world and then see if your thirst for college doesn’t increase a little bit. As an added bonus, you now have a common string identity for Americans. Ah, America, that melting pot which is no longer hot enough to create a common national identity… but- if everyone had to do federal time (pun intended) then there WOULD be a common thread. I, knowing nothing else about any one person except that they were a solider have at least 30 minutes of conversation and 200 days of common shared back ground with them. “So where’d yea do your time” would become one of the first five lines between meeting strangers, and even if they disagree hotly on anything and everything else, if they at least have that common shared experience, they will, I would think, take the time to LISTEN to the other person instead of simply dismissing them out of hand.

Just some thoughts.
