I didn't update after last quarter. I finished with a 3.89ish. A in O-chem 2, A in Physics, and A- in Microbiology. Micro was hard. I enjoyed the lab at times but most of the time it was just an exercise in how much mind-numbing bull-shit I could handle via lab reports, lab practical exams, etc, etc. I really hate how much time lab-heavy courses take up according to the course hour assigned. Purely based on the time scheduled per class per week, a lab class should count for much more (course credit wise) proportional to a non-lab course.
This quarter I am taking Biochemistry 1 and Organic Lab 1. Organic is just a lab, no real lecture. I am a week into biochem and already the amount of information I need to know makes me a little uncomfortable. I'm also taking 10 hours a week of lab time in the Jakeman Neuroscience lab. This past week Robin, the graduate student I work under, taught me how to do the stain for the molecule TGF-Alpha and MAC-1. I already forgot what MAC-1 does but TGF-Alpha is an molecule that supports cellular matrix growth. I probably need to know what MAC-1 is, eh.
Anyway, I was planning on doing the MCAT in September but judging on the effort I've put forth on it so far (none) I doubt I'll be up to take it then. I haven't finished the physics series or the Ochem series so I might be better of taking it in May of 2009. I'm planning on taking the sprig quarter of 2009 off, anyway. I think I might want to dedicate 15-20 hours a week to doing lab work during that quarter and then study for the MCAT, then. I plan on taking the rest of my GEC's in winter 2009 and then finishing up anything else I need in the 2009-2010 year. I don't really have that many credits to go so I might be part time some of those quarters. I've been thinking of applying to MD/PhD programs for the past few months and I think I'm almost dead set on it.
Right now Stacey is in the process of crafting her application for Vet School. Sometime in August-October she will be complete at her schools and then she will hit the interview trail! I've got to say she's one of the most impressive people I've ever met. She kept Promise the whole time she has been in college and lived in her parents house under less than favorable circumstances. She could have taken out loans to live in an apartment while at Marshall and she didn't in order to save money so she could be loan free entering professional school. In a few months she'll have her acceptance to a school and her hard work will have paid off. It seems like it's been a long three years but I'm so happy for her and proud to say such a woman associates with me. :) Our four year anniversary is in three months. Wow.
It's raining outside and I feel very unmotivated. Cheers.
