I LOVE YOU HEATH

Summer 2007
Mid-July
Tucker House

Luke Tucker was, to put it in very simple terms, horribly, completely, totally depressed.

He’d spent nearly every day of the summer holiday here, on his sofa, flipping idly through television channels with one sock half falling off. He didn’t know what was wrong with his left foot, but it hadn’t been able to keep a sock on completely all summer. It wasn’t hot, but he pretended it was. Luke didn’t know why he was doing that- walking around in shorts without a shirt and all, standing by the open fridge door, eating ice cream until his brain hurt- but his mother seemed to think it was because he missed his brother.

And as vehemently as he’d deny it, she was right. It had been a month and a half since Grant had left for Australia, a month and a half too long, in his opinion.

Luke wanted to be there with him, anywhere with him. He had Elliot here, but it wasn’t the same. It was better than nothing, yes, but neither was quite complete without their oldest brother.

Enough was enough.

“Stop hogging the tofu, derro,” he said sulkily to his youngest brother, grabbing at the air for the plate that had been confiscated from him about ten minutes ago. He didn’t even like tofu. He just started eating it this summer.

WHAT A PANSY, HE WAS.
