Camping

Am camping on rocks above temperance river, a short hike from the gravel road where I parked. So far so good, about to sleep and praying for no heebies while I'm in the tent. If I get murdered, please catch the asshole. Thx and <3

Didn't even get to try out my firemaking kit, because the birchbark I found and shredded caught instantly with just the lighter. S'okay though, better to have and not need than to need and not have.

I found a soaking wet pile of charcoal upriver a bit, and brought half a dozen pieces for my own use. Gathered driftwood and fallen branches for the main fire, and threw the wet charcoal pieces on top. Within half an hour they were glowing nicely.

I boiled up a pot of water and made myself some instant chow mein with seaweed flakes, and some hot dogs. Dessert was a mooshed up packet of unfrosted strawberry pop tarts, nommm. It was kind of awesome cooking my own dinner on coals.

I anticipate running out of fresh water in the morning, so my big project will be Filtering And Boiling The Shit Out of River Water. Exciting! I have an 8 quart pot and some wet charcoal that says it'll be drinkable within an hour. I was going to purify the water with iodine or bleach but neither one kills giardia and I really don't love the screaming shits all that much thanks.

Am trying to fall asleep in the tent. It is tempting to give myself the willies but I took melatonin and insist on some rest, even if 10000 wendigos are out there bitching at me through the tent flap.

Epilogue: didn't sleep well after all, but the swimming was awesome and I saw a bear and a wolf. Did not drink boiled water due to not having a filter and the pot being greasy from ramen boiling, but there is always next time!
