Today I organized. Tons of it, and the boringest of boring it was. I know it'll pay off at the convention, where those extra seconds of hunting around for the right print really start to count.
All the Kagerou stickers are now in little bins, in the order in which they appear on the store, and I put one of each sticker on the lid of each segment of the bin so you can see what's inside and where without having to open it up. It took 9 bins for all the round stickers, 8 for Kagerou and 1 for random silly shit. I also organized the square stickers to take up only 2 of the larger bins. Sometime later I'll organize them the same way. This will pay off when I get back from con--I'll be able to find what I need to fill orders and tell at a glance when a design is running low.
I also created a new print book to replace the one the Captain threw up on (wheeeeee carsick doggie!). Con prints AND studio prints are now filed by position in the book. Threw in the newest pieces that haven't seen a convention yet, and took all the rejects and put them in a closeout folder. I'll be selling a LOT of $1 art this con....
An email came through today informing me that the 20-something copies of #2 I ordered have been shipped out. They should arrive well in time for Anime Expo.
One thing I did screw up on, though, was the California seller's permit. I didn't apply for it til this week, when I finally realized the date and panicked. I then found an email from the AX alley mentioning the need to get the permits mailed in by May 15, which I didn't see because I was in Nebraska. Luckily, Teresa is an awesome awesome alley head and she actually messaged me on DA to make sure I was ok. She says everyone missed the deadline so as long as we have our permits when we check in, we're going to be golden. Problem is, I don't know how long it takes them to process permits at the BoE. So I called them, and they assured me that if it turns out I messed up and need to redo something, or if the permit does not arrive in time, I can walk right into their California office and pick up a copy on the same day. So I plan to arrive early just to make certain this is covered.
Last of all, I made bitches to replace the ones that ran out last time I was at a con. Remember Detour '09? Yeahhhh. Fortunately it only took an hour or so because most of the empty slots are for designs I want to never ever offer again due to utter suck. I'll have to do the hammering later tonight when everyone's awake/out of the house, though.
One big problem: I am utterly, flat-ass broke, and so's the Studio. I need to raise an in-case-shit-happens fund for the trip. Gas isn't too bad at all, but I'll need an oil change before I go, and cheap motel money. Luckily I know a place outside Vegas that charges $29 a night and has only moderate bullet hole damage in the headboards, and also luckily I do fine at rest stops.
I figure I should leave on the 28th, so that's 11 days. Con prep should be done in another 2 days or so. That gives me no time to do any commissions in that time, but if people are willing to wait, I can put together a list of $40-$50 jobs now and do them when I get back.
Any takers? The usual Luka single-character full-color commission rules apply--describe what you want and have your reference art (if you have any) linked. And yes, I'll do fanart for you! The price increase is because I timed myself on the last commission blitz and found out how much time they actually take, and I kind of like the higher-quality stuff I've been doing lately more than the quick-and-dirty stuff I originally was charging for. I'll make room for some cheaper fare after the time crunch is un-crunchified.
Now for the good news: Barring another bout of flu or broken sibling emergencies, Kagerou will resume July 9, because that is my birthday, and that is what I WANT for my birthday. Well, Kagerou and rocks. We'll call this a compromise, because Kagerou rocks.
Night night!
