I thought I had a chance at making Animazement and A-Kon after all, even without any prep time, but today I formally surrender. I can't get my real world paperwork done in time, let alone process all these orders and mail them off AND find time for con prep. Want to hear the final straw?
Checked out my puppy's teeth the other day and noticed a funny discoloration on the remaining upper molar. Today I looked at it with better light and sure enough, he's gone and broken THAT tooth too. I have no idea how he did it, I allowed him only soft toys ever since March and nothing he's stolen from the trash has been hard enough to fracture a tooth.
When I saw it, I just... deflated. I tried to rally with an Epic Luka Plan to raise the money to fix this ticking dental time bomb in time to still make my conventions, but there's just no way. I dig deep for inspiration, but there's nothing left. I'm out of pioneering spirit for the first time since I started doing art full-time. I can't start another project til the #1s are sent out, the studio orders are processed and I've gotten my legal papers sent in. I'm out of emotional energy from Nebraska, I've got too many irons in the fire and too many good people waiting for their purchases, my computer is failing and I can't use it for art, aaaaand I'm broke. If I had a personal assistant maybe I could make this fly, but it's just me, and not even me at full power.
So, here's my white flag. I give up. I am fucking pissed off because I was looking forward to Animazement and A-Kon this year. I had all my plans made, the Studio had paid for the tables, I had printed out all my buttons and reorganized for maximized Con Prep efficiency. It was going to be perfect. But as the great foul-mouthed poet once said, the best laid schemes o' motherfuckers gang aft agley.
If there's one thing that smashes my pride into oatmeal, it's failure. I think I'll go sulk.
PS - To end this on a more positive note than I'm feeling: 25 #1s left to sketch.
