Killing time while some truly giant fellows do my oil change. They all tried to fit in the driver's seat and finally came and got me to drive it into the garage ( Read more... )

Have you done melatonin before? It gives some people incredible nightmares including terrors and paralysis. AWESOME.

I've used it a fair few times, but so far no crazy sleep paralysis. Some weird dreams, though.

I took melatonin for a bit. Got a prescription for it from a doctor. Loved it. No ill side effect (affect? I can't remember anymore.) Sadly we dropped the doctor and I haven't remembered to make a request since then. That was years ago.

if it's just plain old melatonin in normal strength (and you're in the US) you can get it at any vitamin/supplement store sana scrip.

I think our local groceries stock it as well, in 5mg tablets. Handy!

I read those books when I was younger and had no idea there was a movie. You make it sound like they read just as well when you're older. I should see if I have my old copy stashed in a box somewhere.

don't flush the system! Its a ploy to get you to spend more money.

Monro has cheap oil changes (its a loss leader) and they are always either trying to get me to change my transmission fluid (hello, its a closed system, no touch!) or replace my power steering fluid.

Cars can go ~7,000 miles between oil changes (unless you have a turbo) and if it isn't in your manual, don't let them do it. Most manuals don't advocate "flushes."

....or did you have sludge buildup?

Sludge buildup. It went a looong way over the mileage on the "next change by" sticker and was pretty gross.

I will be learning to do changes myself in future to save zee moolahs and avoid useless crap I don't need, though. I hate getting upsold due to ignorance.

(Reposting 'cause AAAAGHH my connection! Hope it doesn't show up a zillion times.)

just do what is recommended in the manual. How old is your car anyway? Since its a Honda you should have a pretty reliable car. Any Jiffy Lube place is out to screw you anyway.

Also: Car Talk is awesome, but some of the stuff people do to their cars is amazing. I don't know how they deal with the people who call in.

You could also try the Sleepytime Extra tea. It's a chamomile and mint flavored herbal tea. The Extra is becuase it has Valerian in it. My Dad loves the stuff. I haven't used in in a few years, but I thought it was kinda tasty. I think you can pick it up at Wal-Mart. If you like tea, it may be worth trying. =)
