Sow and sew, without a word

Another month has passed, so I suppose it's about time for another entry, huh? :P

As you may or may not have heard, these past weeks, we've had a lasting peek at summer. Temperatures up to 28°C most of the time, no rain--heck, we barely get weather like that when it IS actually summer. It was the ideal weather for gardening, of course, so that's ( Read more... )

I’m not sure how I missed this entry. *scratches head in puzzlement* Your hakama is absolutely gorgeous. Though I must admit that I love the photos you sent me even more since it shows the hakama being modeled by two lovely people. :) The fabric is beautiful - such a subtle print.

As for the vermin in the garden - I didn’t even know that mice ate lilies!!! Darn them! I knew that lilies were edible, but had no idea that mice found them so tasty. I also didn’t know that mice tunneled underground. Your barrier idea is a good one. I hope it keeps the little devils out permanently!

I know you had thought about a cat at one time. Is that still a possibility?

To tell you a related story - we used to keep a rabbit in our back yard. We built two raccoon-proof houses in the backyard and he stayed outside all year round. (This was on the recommendation of our vet - his fur was three layers thick and the poor rabbit was miserable indoors. Much too hot for him.)

In the spring, Tristan liked to eat the irises as they came up. Irises, unlike lilies, are poisonous. We dug as many of them up as we could find, but each year, more came up. Their affect on Tristan was rather odd though - they made him aggressive. He would rush at us and charge our ankles, growling the whole time. It was really rather funny. Rabbits have terrible vision up close, so he would invariably smash into our ankles. But he would growl and act threatening. Rabbits can sound quite fierce! lol

Aww, now you're making me blush! *gg* I do agree that my hubby looks great in the hakama, but as for myself . . . hmm, might looks better if I had some pounds less on my ribs. (But no, this won't make me go on a diet. :P)

Oh, you better believe that mice eat lilies! It's a specific breed of mice which is quite common around here and which lives underground, just like moles. Our entire lawn has a "spongy" feel to it not only because of moss taking over the grass, but also because of the expansive tunnel system the mice have dug underneath. lol So far, our little barrier has kept the little devils out (Hah!), and yes, we still plan to get a cat or two. I'd rather wait until the downstairs kitchen is finished, though, since that's where we're going to place food and water for the cats. Wouldn't want to get them accustomed to something else now. ;)

Your rabbit story! Hehe! Tristan sounds rather fierce but cute. lol For how long did you keep him?
I tried my luck with irises both this year and the last. And guess what? The mice ate ALL the bulbs--and are apparently still alive, duh! Makes me wonder whether irises really are poisonous for vermin, or just for humans. :P
