So, Hugh Laurie concert in Hamburg last night. :D And it was awesome!!! \o/ Not that I expected anything else, of course. *gg* I'm quite bad at writing reports, but I'll give it a go. ;-) *lol*
We met up at about 5 p.m. (we were 6 people) and then went to a Thai restaurant on the Reeperbahn. I have no idea anymore what my dish was called (something with chicken *g*), but it was very yummy. :-) We ate and talked and had a nice time. At about 7.30 p.m. we left the restaurant and went over to the concert's location, the Café Keese. Doors had already opened at 7 p.m. and there was still quite a long queue waiting outside. But we got inside comparatively quick nevertheless.
The Café Keese isn't that big really and it was already very crowded. We made our way to about the middle of the room on the right side and stayed there. The stage was pretty low and frankly we couldn't really see anything. A bit of the microphone at the most, if we were lucky. ;-) *g* And it was really hot!
At 8 p.m. the band came on stage and started playing, and at some point Hugh must've joined them because the crowd started cheering some more. *gg* I didn't really see him at first, but caught some glimpses eventually.
He greeted us with some German sentences. :D Don't remember them exactly, but something along the lines of "Guten Abend" (good evening), "Willkommen..." (welcome) and "Mädchen und Jungen" (girls and boys). He also said then that that was actually all he knew in German. *g* And asked how many of us understood English. :D
My view actually got much better after about half of the concert and I could see Hugh quite without problems when he was standing at the microphone in the middle of the stage. *yay* I still had some problems when he was sitting at the piano on the left side, but at least I could see most of his head for most of the time then. *lol*
At the end, they got off the stage and when they came back on once more, Hugh said that that was actually all they had but they could just start all over again. *lol* We sure wouldn't have minded. :D They played one more song and then it was over (~ 9.30 p.m.).
I really enjoyed the music (even though I don't normally listen to Blues tbh) and I'm definitely going to buy his album! :-) [BTW, can somebody tell me why the German Amazon lists it twice? Both with different prices and release dates? *is confused*]. I think I liked 3 songs in particular. One of them was "Let them talk". I don't remember the titles of the other ones, so I'll have to try and find them on the CD. *g*
I thought the audience was in a pretty good mood too. :-) Altogether nice atmosphere.
Several people wore House shirts (who'd have thought, right? :p) which I didn't really find that appropriate, but ok... There was also one guy in a complete House outfit. He was standing a bit in front of me during the concert and kept waving his cane around every now and then, and afterwards, when we were still standing outside talking, we saw him "limping by" (seriously!). *lol* IDEK.
the location:
And the Hugh photos.
no flashlight + being quite a distance away (i.e. using zoom) + having to photograph above people's heads (i.e. slightly shaky hands) = somewhat blurry and grainy pics ;-) BUT you can recognise who it is and some of them aren't actually bad. These are the best ones I'd say.
