anexoticplanet Wu Yifan doesn’t know why The Prince has dragged him out of his post to take a small walk around the palace with him. It is almost bedtime soon, but The Prince looks so keen to talk to him that he has to agree to accompany The Prince at that particular windy night. The city is so quiet. Only the sound of their steps and the brisk of wind against the tree can be heard that night. People are hiding in their houses, praying to the Gods to keep their planet safe. It is too much of a risk to go out of the house these days, the threats from The Titans are still loud and clear in their heads.
"Are you afraid, Commander Wu?" The Prince pauses in his step. He has turned around and is now facing Yifan. There are tired lines on his face, but it shows nothing but calmness. It still amazes Yifan how The Prince still looks composed minutes into war. He is The Prince for nothing, afterall.
"To be afraid is a great responsibility I’m trying not to afford, my Prince," Yifan bows a little.
"To be afraid is a normal thing for us, humans, Commander," The Prince smiles. He looks up to the sky, and Yifan follows. The sight of an ocean of stars and the bright full moon welcomes him. It is something he used to love to do when he was a child, he used to try to count the stars until he grew tired and his mother ushered him inside the house. But it is an old and forgotten habit, especially now when he is a commander of the planet’s defense team.
"I am, honestly, afraid of what will happen ahead," The Prince says, with his head still tilted up. Yifan finds his eyes fixed to the way The Prince’s adam’s apple moves as he speaks. "What if they take away this planet from me?" He suddenly sounds so fearful.
"I will not let that to happen, Your Highness," Yifan quickly replies. He can’t afford watching the man before him crumbling into pieces. It is his main job to keep The Prince from falling, to pick up the pieces and glue them into a whole piece again. "I will make sure The Titans will never set their feet on EXO Planet anymore."
The Prince shakes his head, smiling sadly. He walks over to Yifan and puts his hand on Yifan’s arm, smoothing the red cloak that is proudly draped over his armour. “Please look up at the sky,” The Prince asks, and Yifan immediately tilts his head up. “How many stars are there, Commander Wu?”
"I don’t know, Your Highness. There’s probably a hundred."
"Aren’t they beautiful?"
"More than ever."
The Prince tugs on his chin, causing him to look down straight at the depth of The Prince’s eyes. Yifan wonders if he ever finds a way back once he gets lost in those eyes. “I want you to remember that, in case we don’t get to see the same sky anymore, or at all. This is a great war we are talking about, and I don’t even know if I will get to see you again, Yifan.”
“Joonmyun,” Yifan starts, but he never gets to finish because once he sees the tear falling from The Prince’s eyes, he loses himself and pulls the other into his tight embrace, their lips quickly finding each other into a desperate kiss. It’s so desperate that he might bruise The Prince’s lip, but he doesn’t care. Because if this is the last time he gets to see his Prince, then he might as well use the time wisely.
When they part, a blazed phoenix flies across the sky. Yifan looks alarmed. The phoenix is only there to remind him of one thing: that the war is going to start. The enemies are on their way and if EXO Planet’s army doesn’t prepare from now, it’s mostly defeat they are going to get. So The Prince pushes him encouragingly, his face still composed as ever but Yifan can trace the fear and anxiety in his eyes.
"Go, and save the world," says The Prince.
Yifan is so torn between pulling the man before him into his embrace and never letting go, and to run away to his ship and leading the defense army. He ends up bringing up The Prince’s hand to his face and presses a kiss onto his knuckles. “I love you.”
"More than anything."
