Emmy Noms: OM NOM NOM

Jul 08, 2010 10:23

I feel like if I start updating this more, it's just going to become about Television because that's all I really care about. SO, without further ado, here are this year's Emmy noms (the important ones), and how I feel about them (bold if I want them to win, italics if I'm just excited, and strikethrough if I'm like MEH):

OUTSTANDING DRAMA
Lost
Breaking Bad
Dexter
Mad Men
True Blood
The Good Wife

Ok, I mean, how could you NOT want Mad Men to win? I admit that I still haven't seen S4 of Dexter and I know that the ending is inSANE, but honestly, Mad Men last season was just so unbelievable there's no way it won't win again. Also, True Blood? Awesome.

OUTSTANDING COMEDY
Glee
Modern Family
Curb Your Enthusiasm
Nurse Jackie
30 Rock
The Office
Curb Your Enthusiasm

Two words: MODERN FAMILY. Sorry, 30 Rock, but I think it's time for someone else to take home the Emmy. Note that I didn't italicize Glee. While I love Glee for what it is, I don't think that as a comedy it stands up to Modern Family. Modern Family is just hands down the best comedy of the year, and it it doesn't win I will be pretty disappointed.

OUTSTANDING REALITY SHOW (COMPETITION)
The Amazing Race
American Idol
Dancing with the Stars
Project Runway
Top Chef

Amazing Race? AI? DWTS? ZZzzZZzzZZzzZZzzZZzz... Honestly I feel that we should just cancel this category this year, but I'll just go with Top Chef, despite the fact that I feel that it was pretty 'meh' last season, although I feel that PR was even moreso.

OUTSTANDING ACTRESS IN A DRAMA
Julianna Margulies (The Good Wife)
Mariska Hargitay (Special Victims Unit)
Glenn Close (Damages)
Kyra Sedgwick (The Closer)
January Jones (Mad Men)
Connie Britton (Friday Night Lights)

This one was hard to pick. I really want Kyra Sedgwick to finally get an Emmy for her work in The Closer, but I don't think its fifth season was the best. Similarly for Glenn Close, she's awesome but Damages' third and final season just wasn't up to the precedent set by its first. So, I have to go with January Jones, whose portrayal of Betty Draper and the end of the Draper marriage was subtle and absolutely fantastic last season.

OUTSTANDING ACTOR IN A DRAMA
Jon Hamm (Mad Men)
Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights)
Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad)
Hugh Laurie (House M.D.)
Michael C. Hall (Dexter)
Matthew Fox (Lost)

This is a category in which I would be happy if any of the three I selected won. Will Bryan Cranston win again? Probably. But I haven't seen Breaking Bad so I can't be happy about that. BUT, I do feel like Hugh Laurie really brought a completely new side to the character of House this season, and I would love to see him win. Same with Michael C. Hall, he's deserved it for quite a while, and I think he deserves it. And Jon Hamm has been amazing in the role of Don Draper for three seasons, so his win wouldn't break my heart at all.

OUTSTANDING ACTRESS IN A COMEDY
Lea Michele (Glee)
Tina Fey (30 Rock)
Toni Collette (The United States of Tara)
Julia Louis-Dreyfus (The New Adventures of Old Christine)
Edie Falco (Nurse Jackie)
Amy Poehler (Parks and Recreation)

This decision was IMPOSSIBLE to make. Ok, I made all of these decisions in ten seconds, so none of them were impossible, but honestly. I love all of these shows so much. Does Lea Michele belong in this category? I don't think so. Maybe it's because I'm sick of Rachel, but I just do not think she is in league with Tina, Toni, Edie, and Amy. That said, arg I love 30 Rock, Tara, and Parks so much, but I have to give the win to Edie. Nurse Jackie is just so absolutely fantastic that I would love to see her win. In terms of pure comedy, I think Tina should take it, but I have a feeling it will again to go Toni Collette, and possibly deservedly so as she plays 5 or 6 characters on a regular basis. But let's spread the love around!

OUTSTANDING ACTOR IN A COMEDY
Larry David (Curb Your Enthusiasm)
Alec Baldwin (30 Rock)
Matthew Morrison (Glee)
Steve Carell (The Office)
Jim Parsons (The Big Bang Theory)
Tony Shalhoub (Monk)

There is only one person in this list who should win, and probably will win. I feel like I have nothing to say here.

OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTOR IN A COMEDY
Chris Colfer (Glee)
Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother)
Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Modern Family)
Jon Cryer (Two and A Half Men)
Eric Stonestreet (Modern Family)
Ty Burrell (Modern Family)

Oh man, look at all those gays in this category! Go you guys! Seriously! Arg, save Jon Cryer, everyone in this category could win and I would be ecstatic. Even NPH, and I only say that because I have little interest in HIMYM, but I love NPH, so it would work out. Biggest shocker? CHRIS COLFER. <3 However, in the end, I'd give it to Ty Burrell. He is the comedic heart of Modern Family, and should definitely win. Although I love JTF and Eric Stonestreet to death too. (No love for Ed O'Neil? What's up with that?)

OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTOR IN A DRAMA
John Slattery (Mad Men)
Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad)
Martin Short (Damages)
Terry O’ Quinn (Lost)
Michael Emerson (Lost)
Andre Braugher (Men of a Certain Age)

I have no opinion in this category, other than that I love John Slattery as Roger Sterling and I hope he wins.

OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTRESS IN A DRAMA
Sharon Gless (Burn Notice)
Christine Baranski (The Good Wife)
Christina Hendricks (Mad Men)
Rose Byrne (Damages)
Archie Panjabi (The Good Wife)
Elisabeth Moss (Mad Men)

This is another category in which I find it hard to pick. I love Sharon Gless, but I feel that her role in Burn Notice is more comedic than dramatic. I love Christina Hendricks, but feel that her role in this past season of Mad Men was reduced in such a way that I don't know if I would give it to her. I also love Rose Byrne... but nah. I'd have to give it to Elisabeth Moss, who has gotten more and more amazing each year as Peggy.

OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTRESS IN A COMEDY
Jane Lynch (Glee)
Kristen Wiig (Saturday Night Live)
Jane Krakowski (30 Rock)
Julie Bowen (Modern Family)
Sofia Vergara (Modern Family)
Holland Taylor (Two and A Half Men)

If Jane Lynch doesn't win I don't know what I will do. She is pure comedy, and if she doesn't win that will be absolutely ridiculous. AS MUCH as I love Jane Krakowski, Julie Bowen, and Sofia Vergara, this goes to Jane Lynch HANDS DOWN.

OUTSTANDING GUEST ACTOR IN A COMEDY
Mike O'Maley (Glee)
Neil Patrick Harris (Glee)
Fred Willard (Modern Family)
Eli Wallach (Nurse Jackie)
Jon Hamm (30 Rock)
Will Arnett (30 Rock)

There isn't a bad nomination in this category. But I'd give it to Mike O'Malley, who did something really special in the portrayal of Kurt's dad.

OUTSTANDING GUEST ACTOR IN A DRAMA
Beau Bridges (The Closer)
Ted Danson (Damages)
John Lithgow (Dexter)
Alan Cumming (The Good Wife)
Dylan Baker (The Good Wife)
Robert Morse (Mad Men)
Gregory Itzin (24)

This will go to John Lithgow, no question. And rightfully so.

OUTSTANDING GUEST ACTRESS IN A COMEDY
Christine Baranski (The Big Bang Theory)
Kathryn Joosten (Desperate Housewives)
Kristin Chenoweth (Glee)
Tina Fey (SNL)
Betty White (SNL)
Elaine Stritch (30 Rock)
Jane Lynch (Two And A Half Men)

Ungh I can't choose. Kristin or Betty? Tina or Elaine? IT IS IMPOSSIBLE. But in the end i picked Kristin Chenoweth, because she was absolutely delightful on Glee.

OUTSTANDING GUEST ACTRESS IN A DRAMA
Mary Kay Place (Big Love)
Sissy Spacek (Big Love)
Shirley Jones (The Cleaner)
Lily Tomlin (Damages)
Ann-Margret (Law and Order: Special Victims Unit)
Elizabeth Mitchell (Lost)

My only opinion: no love for Mary McDonnell on The Closer? FOR SHAME.
