I just got home from my first interview for employment in 8 years. I interviewed for a job at DHEC (the South Carolina Department for Health and Environmental Control). The job would entail inspecting x-ray machines and tanning bed facilities for code violations, as well as issuing citations and collecting fees from tanning facilities. There would be investigations and inspections and probably public speaking.
I think the interview went well. It was a panel interview which consisted of three female employees of that particular department. They took turns asking the questions and they all wrote down my answers. Nervous-making! But they seemed nice enough. They said they've got interviews scheduled through Wednesday and they'd call either the end of the week or beginning of next week for second interviews. They also said they'd call if I was not selected to participate in a second interview. Keep your fingers crossed!!
This job would mean more than a (really good!) pay raise; I'd finally be using my degree and doing something that involved science! Also, I think I've done enough retail penance! For what transgressions, I don't know. But I'm tired of screaming customers (and that's not just the children!) and disgusting bathroom clean-ups and rude people. I know, I'd still have some of that in any new job I might get, but there would have to be less of it - if only because I would be dealing with fewer people. :)
Here's to hoping...
