Well, I made it home. I hope Joe makes it.
But, we've prepared for this eventuality. The house is barricaded and we've stashed weapons at every possible entry point. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to get together the maggot cannon. Probably a good thing, since it hasn't been tested in combat situations. Still, it would've been fun to try. For the most part, though, we've stuck with both blunt and sharp objects as weapons. Yeah, it would be nice to have some automatics - but then you've got issues when you run out of ammo. No, better to stick to the easily portable and reliable, in this sort of situation.
I've got the inspirational music cued up, too. You just can't have enough mental support. So, there's some Jonathon Coulton and some Rob Zombie.
Also, the internet is still up and that bodes well. I haven't heard anything out of the ordinary for this neighborhood, yet, either. There was some shambling and oddness downtown, but they've not made it this far yet. They're actually slower than I thought they'd be. That won't help much when the hordes come, I'm sure. But it's something. I wonder if they'll be doing the "Braaaaaainnnnns!" thing or if that's just Hollywood.
Oh, yay - Joe is home! From now on, those of you who need a safe house can come here. I hope you remember the knock sequence. Pounding on the door won't get you in - for reasons that should be obvious!
If things still look ok tomorrow, we'll probably try for my folks' place out in the country. They've got a pretty good set-up out there. If any of y'all want to join the cavalcade, let me know. I'm going to assume that if you can still type a coherent sentence, you've not gone over.
I'm gonna go cook dinner. If anything changes, I'll let y'all know - whoever's still got the higher brain functions to be able to read, anyway. Let me know how you're doing, too.
Good night and good luck.
