In the late 90s during the height of Hercules' and Xena's respective reigns, there was a series called Roar that featured child versions of Heath Ledger, Keri Russell, Vera Farmiga, and Billy Zane's big sister fighting over Ireland near the end of the Roman Empire. The main gimmick is that Roman, Christian, and Druidic mythology are all real to some extent, so the struggle is equal parts sword and sorcery. The two Roman villains are particularly intriguing as their goals converge and diverge throughout.
It was a little too daffy and stiff to deserve more than its one season, but for some reason I remain fond enough to keep rewatching. I remember my tragic teenage disappointment well--in a season of 13 episodes, the major climax is in episode 12 and then episode 13 is used to introduce a handful of plot threads for a future that would never come.
