Not that I've been job hunting, but I feel like I've become a lot more cautious about what I post--here and elsewhere.

Looking back at my ooooold entries, I disclosed personal encounters and expressed feelings that I couldn't imagine myself doing now. I always enjoyed LJ for it's roughly 50/50 blend of RL friends and internet friends. Especially when I posted something momentous, the interwoven reactions really helped to develop my outlook on the situation. It's been a long time since I've gone hunting for new LJ contacts--might do me some good.

I never tried to conceal my identity with this journal, but I didn't really broadcast it either. That fig leaf of anonymity allowed me to vent sincerely and ramble about topics that I would never do on G+ or Facebook. It's not that I have anything to hide from my friends and family, but since G+ and Facebook are so big, every friend and family member feels obligated to read me so I end up feeling bad if I post something that's negative or provocative or overly narrow / geeky. Since this journal isn't named after me, everyone is free to read or not read as they wish. Despite all the ups and downs, I feel like LJ as a blog site still occupies that important sweet spot.
