My grandma's church started offering this a while back, and my mom eventually got into it. I think I'm going to take the plunge now.
http://www.angelfoodministries.com/ Their home page quote pretty much sums up what it is: "Angel Food Ministries is a non-profit, non-denominational organization dedicated to providing grocery relief to communities throughout theUnited States." Usually local churches will be drop off / pick up locations. You go up there the morning of delivery day and get your stuff and off ya go with lots of food.
In TX, for $25, you get A LOT of food, and for another $20ish you can get up to 10lbs more of just meat. Different states may offer different food/pricing per month, but this is the menu for August for TX if you wanna take a quick peek:
http://www.angelfoodministries.com/menu.asp?period=27&state=TX&lang=EN&submit=Submit May not be for everyone, but with the way I've been stretching checks lately, just a single month of this would be more/better food than what that same amount of money has been buying me at the local store. It's meat, too. The only meat I ever buy is lunch meat for sandwiches or hot dogs -- everything else is just too expensive in my mind.
Keeping this one public.
