ON THE ONE HAND: I was delayed getting to Chicago by about five hours.

ON THE OTHER HAND: I got there! And Chicago is beautiful.

ON THE ONE HAND: The airline lost my suitcase, and I had to wear the same clothes for 26 hours until I finally got it back.

ON THE OTHER HAND: The suitcase was kinda heavy, and either American Airlines or the TSA helped me out by removing my brand new expensive digital camera and my cell phone charger from it. Thanks, whoever you are! And merry Christmas!

ON THE ONE HAND: Despite not sleeping since 8AM Sunday and still being basically stupid-drunk when I boarded the plane this morning, I did not throw up in the cab, at O'Hare, or at the San Antonio Airport!

ON THE OTHER HAND: The words "in the airplane" are not included in the previous sentence. Nor are the words "four times".

ON THE ONE HAND: Pretty much every travel-related aspect of this trip was relentlessly awful.

ON THE OTHER HAND: I got to spend New Year's Eve at a terrific party getting shattered on really good liquor with my dearest friends, who care enough about me to have flown me back to the city I love most at their own expense just so they could hang out with me. I got to pet my cats, who I miss a lot, and I got to see people and places I haven't seen in nine months, and I left that city feeling pretty damn good.

ON THE ONE HAND: 2006 was, to say the very least, a bit of a mixed bag of a year.

ON THE OTHER HAND: Despite the utter misery I brought on myself, and on people that I love, the year featured some of the best moments of my life, and I can't imagine a better way to have seen it out.

Must sleep now. Must. Happy new year, all.
