Some really great stuff in there, including a swell sketch by Dan Brereton of Sam Spade, drawn precisely after Hammett's description of him as a "pleasant blond Satan".

very nice stuff. I'm especially amused by the Grell and Vietch renditions of the mythological Medusa, with snakes not only on her scalp, but underarms and pubis as well.

That is a wonderful concept.

The Bukowski is hysterically on the nose. It sets the groundwork for a great Satyrday morning cartoon. Marlowe's dimple favors Kirk Douglas. And, unfortunately, I now have the image of Arte Johnson as Ignatius Reilly after listening to the book-on-tape. Victor Buono would have been ideal.
