There's a big ad for New Balance shoes on the side of the bus stop at the corner of Irving Park and California, and it feature's a woman's foot splashing into a puddle as she runs. The slogan says "N is for Fit", and best of all, she is not wearing any shoes -- she's barefoot, and nowhere in the ad is there any suggestion that New Balance is a shoe company.
I am fascinated by the fact that so much advertising works on a level where it doesn't have to be representational, or informative, or even coherent.
