I've set up a Pandora station that's listed as a "Tony Rice" station. For those who don't know, he's the flatpicker and has been for nearly 30 years. Yes, there are other greats, like Doc Watson and Norman Blake and Dan Crary and David Grier, and I put them in, too, hoping to give me a big list of flatpickers and bluegrassers, and it has. It's also put in a lot of fingerpickers, like John Fahey and Leo Kottke, and I dig 'em too.

Pandora just put up "Sunflower River Blues" by Jack Rose. And it's like a half-speed take on Leo Kottke's "Vaseline Machine Gun". With a name like "Vaseline Machine Gun", you might guess it's fast, so a half-speed version can still be decent, but when you can say to yourself "he's going to play the bass note" and then he does it, you start thinking of reporting it to that Stop Plagarism LJ community.

Anyway, they moved to a Kaki King song, which might be nice if I started a Michael Hedges station but if I'm looking for grassy flatpicking, it isn't it.
