Motownphilly = motown + philly Like Motown style music in Philadelphia. The song is 10 years old, and I just got the whole concept today. I'm smart. I had that mini-epiphany while I was sorting my music to make some harddrive space. Later, in a similar moment of brilliance, I made this little list of songs from the 90s that need to be covered, and who needs to cover them.
1. Motownphilly (Boyz II Men) - The Roots and Jill Scott. But only because they're from the same city and no one ever covers Boyz II Men. Actually, I think this might be the most uncoverable song ever since the entire thing is basically about being in the group.
2. Freak Like Me (Adina Howard) - This would have been the perfect Aaliyah song, but I guess I'll let Ashanti do it, since we all know she's just a cut-rate Aaliyah anyway. "I want a freak in the morning, a freak in the evening, just like me." "I got a freaky secret, everybody sing"
3. Off On Your Own Girl (Al B Sure) - Usher. Since he's such a fan of the break-up song. I'll even let him re-title it Off on Ur own
4. Ice Ice Baby (Vanilla Ice) - Justin Timberlake. It's only right. "Cooking emcees like a pound of bacon."
5. Stay (Jodeci) - Craig David. "Tonight, let's start our love again. Tonight we can be more than just friends. Don't you know the sun, it is going down. So baby, won't you stay for a little while?" Who wouldn't stay a little while with Craig? It's so his kind of song.
6. Honey Love (R. Kelly) - Craig David. Yep, he gets to make two appearances. He's got the perfect voice for singing the lines: "Let's go to the mall baby." and "Girl don't be shy. Just baby come inside. Turn down the lights. Cause there is something that I want from you right now."
7. Reminisce (Mary J. Blige) - Alica Keys. "You're so nice, but tonight we're gonna be more than just friends"
8. Do Me (Bell Biv Devoe)- Usher. It sounds like he would sing this. "Take off your clothes and leave on your shoes."
9. I'll Take Her (Ill Al Skratch and Brian Mcknight) - Ja Rule and anyone. He already has the voice. "Hey, I be the one with the voice that's raspy... getting down-right nasty" And it's the kind of watered down hiphop meets r&b stuff he loves.
10. Gin and Juice (Snoop) - Fabolous. I'm not so sure about this one, but Snoop needs to be on the list. And Fabolous's voice and cadence maybe almost work. No quote, everyone should already know the words.
11. Get Money (Biggie and Lil Kim)- Ludacris and Missy Elliot. I had to give Luda something to do. "Damn, why she wanna stick me for my paper? My Moschino ho, my Versace hottie, come to find out, you was fucking everybody!"
12. Giving Him Something He Can Feel (EnVogue) - Christina Aguilera. I think the song is already a cover. Oh well. I just thought this would give Chrissie a song to shriek over and be "real" on. And there was a small amount of stripping in the original video. She'll like that. "Living in a world of ghetto life, everyone is so uptight, nothing's wrong, it's all right my man"
13. Don dada (Supercat) - Sean Paul. Little X will direct the video. I'd quote the lyrics, but I don't really understand what's being said.
