Sleep Trouble

This LJ is usually all about cute toddler photos lately, but I need to mention the horror that is the Bean's sleep pattern this last week or so ( Read more... )

All she has are four top teeth & two bottom ones, so I thought it would be canines next.

I did try baby ibuprofen when she was showing signs of distress, but now all she's doing is saying "BOOB!" very often, & opening my tops!

Thank you, I'll try dosing her at bedtime.

I generally wake her up around midnight if she's asleep then, change her & nurse her back to sleep.

Should I dose her then, or earlier, do you think?

She is spark-out now, to the extent that I was able to look in her mouth for teefs!

Unfortunately, she's a so-called 'heavy wetter'... saves it up for ages, then lets rip, so I really have to change her late, or else she needs changing at 4am, which I really hate to do.

I use cloth nappies, yes, but the pocket kind, where you stuff absorbent pads, terry squares, whatever inside pockets which are fleece inside & waterproof outside.

Dear little Freda! I'll try to get a look right inside the Bean's mouth, if she'll let me! Thanks again.

Does she seem unwell in any other way? It could easily be teething, it can last for a while.

Is her room dark enough? It's getting light earlier now and she may be responding to that.

Last week, she had flushed cheeks, drooling, raised temperature, crying, chewing on everything... but on Sunday, we decided to take her out for the day, & she was thoroughly distracted, so we thought it couldn't be so bad.

Right now she is happily dragging a large board-book over to me... quick break to read If Dogs Wore Clothes...

As I was saying, seems perky enough now she's had an hour's nap, & pushed her lunch around the tray.

I was worried that the room was a bit light, so I slung a piece of black-out fabric over my thin curtains: hope that's helped...

Thank you for your comments: really, I'm puzzled.

Oh, L. I remember these times...

Do you still have her in your bed? Is she really nursing when she wakes or just....not? Does she nap during the day?

Teething can do this, growth spurts can do this. Plain ol' discovering the world can do this. You might just have to adapt/adjust for a while until she's found her new schedule, such as going to bed when she goes. Not letting her nap after one and then taking her to the park mid-afternoon for a wearing out session...

I used to fill my side of the bed with small toys to try to get an extra hour from five to six am....

*hugs*

When she wakes, she sits bolt upright, says "Boob!" & dives on me. I'm not sure quite how long she's nursing for every time, because I'm a bit delirious, but sometimes it's just a few minutes & she's letting go & snuggling back down, sometimes she'll go for ages & fall asleep at the breast.

She sleeps in the middle of a big bed, btw.

She usually naps around 3pm, but is then on the go until at least 9pm, sometimes later, but some days this last week she's skipped the nap altogether, & today she fell asleep before 1pm, & ate lunch really late.

We have the graveyard right outside the door, so I often chase her around it an hour in the late afternoon. Not today, though, as I'm wrecked.

There are toys in the bed, but she really only seems to have one thing on her mind right now: she was even feeding as I posted this comment!

*yawn*

I admit, I never expected to nurse MORE often than she did in the first weeks, but she is!

Oh, I know, I know! And now may be the time...to start thinking about your nursing relationship. I nursed mine until they were four and both weaned with no problem whatsoever, but if you're not going to go for the long haul, this year will be the year to wean slowly. But if she's teething or having a growth spurt or just trying out the limits of mom's coping mechanism...weaning is the last thing you want to introduce.

Sounds like everything else is picture perfect! I certainly would not let her nap past three, then!

Poor L!!!

Did the LLL group work out for you? I found that moms need MORE support in the toddler nursing years for the most part than during the infant months.

You know what? I never did find a local LLL group... I had a phone number for someone... I should give them a call!

We've had no car all winter, & now have got it going again, so I could think about going to meetings.

No, I don't want to stop this year, if I can possibly help it, even if I got pregnant again. I'm very bloody-minded.

Think we've maybe found out what is wrong with the Bean, though... just about to update with a new entry...

Noah is doing this, too. He has not finished a full bottle for three days, and we're talking about a kid who takes less than a minute to polish off 8 oz. He wont even let me feed him a spoon of his most favored foods, of which he has all of three.

He is teething, I believe, because he is tugging at his ears and highly irritable. I've been giving him baby ibuprophen when he wakes up and it drastically improves his morning mood, but he is still obviously in pain and very grumpy about it. I can't even see where he might be getting his next one (and of course he wont let me look for very long).

Poor little guy!

You have my sympathy!

The other day, the Bean came over & held out her finger for me to kiss better.

She HAD a graze on her littlest finger, which scabbed over, & the last of the scab fell off around then, but she still wanted me to kiss it. She also kept hitting her head. I think she was trying to explain that SOMETHING hurt, but not able to tell me exactly which part!

Awwwww. Isn't it crazy how you can see that they want to communicate, that they understand what *they* want to say, but there just aren't the right words, yet?

He is already trying to say, "no", but is sounds like "naaaaaaaaaaaaah".
