Life Update, New Computer Advice?
Hello, all!
As usual, I haven't posted in forever. I'm teaching at an inner city enrichment program this summer. It's a nice change and keeping me busy. This is the second year I've worked there. I thought I'd have more time to get things done online before summer school started, but lots of family things came up. I am making progress on the story I promised to get edited, Friday night chat goup, slowly but surely. Ack! Also, sorry for totally falling asleep last week and not saying good night. I've been really tired lately.
Actually. I was out of town and super stressed by some family stuff lately. I want to do a longer post about what's being going on at some point. Meanwhile, I have some extra money that I wasn't expecting. Very sad and nice at the same time, since it came from selling my mom's family home. I'm going to really miss that house. I want to use most of my share for savings and bills, of course, with the way things all all over!
But I've talked myself into buying a laptop, which I've been wanting FOREVER as my one splurge. My desktop has become so buggy and weird the last couple of years and I worry that I'm going to lose my fiction drafts at any time. I save to my flash drive all the time! Still, it's annoying and I'm sick of restarting all the time and losing the changes I've made to drafts. Plus, a laptop would make it so much easier to travel, etc. Anyway, my eyes are crossing looking at all these different sites and specs and trying to figure out what would be the best deal. I'm going to stop by Best Buy tonight in person and look around.
What do you all have to suggest? Any advice for me? Brands you love or hate? Options that I MUST have or that are a total waste? I mostly just want a basic machine that I can use to write and edit text, be online with of course, and have a moderate amount of music and pictures on. I would really like to play more games that I can't on this machine. Nothing fancy though, just SIMS 2 and things like that, which I've been DYING to try for a couple of years now. I SO will be making a Battlestar neighboorhood and perhaps some Regency ones-for Heyer and Novik's Dragon's series, which I've been reading lately. BTW, I'm really looking forward to reading the fifth book in that series at the end of the week when it comes out, if anyone is looking for a book recomendation!
So, anyways, friends, what should I buy? Give me advice! I shall update with more specific choices narrowing it down after I look in person if I can. The sooner I buy one, the sooner I'll finish editing fic! Now, I'm off to get jabbed at the Dr, which I hate and fear so much! I am going to reward myself with ice cream once I'm done. Wish me luck!
