This was soo awesome. I've often thought about how scary movies are really a take on our own real fears. Im bummed I missed the call for fears on twitter :(. I dont check my feed nearly enough. Masterful work on the maze btw. I loved the two ghosts taking a cigarette(joint?)/coffee break haha
I feel lame for not recognizing Anath and Yuko immediately. I think it's because I'm so accustomed to Anath having eyes.
I am content to let everyone else enjoy their horror movies and stories and whatnot. I've never really put much thought into the purpose horror serves (because I am too busy fleeing in the opposite direction). This was extremely interesting.
Okay, am I the only one who thinks that the subtext of "Nobody Loves You Like Me" is that it's sung from the perspective of a rich old man with a chronic illness who had a clone of himself made when he was first diagnosed and now that the clone is in his 20s he's all ready to harvest his organs so he can keep living, but at the last minute he realizes that killing the clone and taking his organs would be worse than dying, because it would be like murdering himself in his prime (I know that identical twins aren't the same person, much less people with the same genome who were raised decades apart, but this guy has to be pretty twisted or he wouldn't have hit on this scheme in the first place), so he decides to retreat to his mansion and die after all, and his clone never knows that he just narrowly escaped a fate that's been destined for him his entire life, because even though the old man constantly kept tabs on him and got to know him from afar, the clone never knew of the old man's existence
( ... )
(The tricky thing is that when he sings "Nobody loves you like me", he's singing to the clone, but when he says "I'll use a pencil and that will show you", he's singing to the part of himself who had planned to harvest the clone's organs in the first place. He's got some serious self/other conflation issues.)
