I put my mower together last night and tried it out today - it's an electric push mower (
this one, actually, although I bought it for significantly less than that, go mothership!) with a lever start on the handle. my old push mower was gas operated, which was good, but it had a fucking pull cord (made out of a shoelace, the damn thing is almost as old as I am) that regularly tried to make me herniate myself. so, today, since I got up at 10.45 and it was not thunderstorming, I decide to try things out.
did some trimming first (hilariously enough, the "buy together" on that page suggested I get the exact trimmer that I also bought last night), to clean out the front boxes and go through the _really_ high grass around my porch steps. it worked fine, although with the size of my lawn and the numerosity of my weeds, I am definitely going to go through a lot of trimmer line. then I got the mower out, and omg! started right up, munched through the grass a treat (even though I had it on the third-highest blade setting), and I zoomed around for about 90 minutes.
which, holy crap I am really going to regret tomorrow, because I am not nearly in good enough shape to do hard cardio for 90 minutes. but I got the front, by the garage, around the maple tree, and both sides along the house cut. that just leaves the back, ahahaha. I do think, though, if the weather is nice and it's not too hot, I might be able to mow my entire lawn in three days, which would be awesome. plus, fantastic exercise.
I love the grip on the mower - it's all cushioned, and it just starts so easy! it's probably more expensive (hydro vs. gas, although gas is going up), but for the relative use of ease (as in, I can start it every time) and the fact that I'm pretty sure it weighs a little less than the old gas behemoth, I am super-pleased. and, really, it just looks so much nicer when the lawn is neatly mowed. it's not like I haven't _wanted_ (well, _really_ wanted) to mow it for the past month, but having proper tools is great.
the only thing I am pissed about is the fact that it's still really cool overnight (I had two thick blankets on last night), and I don't think I can plant the new plants I bought. which means keeping them inside and hopefully alive until it warms up some.
now I am eating yummy fruit (banana, mango, golden delicious apple, straw-, blue-, and blackberries) salad and waiting for the Unisom to kick in so I can have a nap before work. yes, I work twelve hours tonight. go. team. me.
god, this entire post was boring.
