am home. considering the ridiculous amount of things that went wrong during this very brief trip to Toronto, it's amazing that I can say I had a great time, but I did. among the mishaps:
- having to drive around all over the place before finally finding somewhere to park before "Phantom" yesterday; I seriously had to pass about 10 full lots before I found one with room
- having to drive in rush-hour traffic downtown to get to where
nafs was waiting for us to go to dinner
- getting the worst hip pain I've had in ages from driving and sitting at the PoW theatre (not enough leg room, sadly)
- buying alcohol, then finding out it required a bottle opener, which neither
bachelor_girl nor I had (but I made her get me one. she had pants on.)
-
bachelor_girl totally blanking on our "name the top 10 boys-kissing-boys scenes ever" game in the car (OMG we totally forgot Dylan and Marco getting back together!)
- bg's need for heat in the hotel room causing a multi-block power outage (no, seriously!)
- showering in the dark
- driving back into Toronto and having my broken windshield wiper snap all the way over and _off_ the windshield (a couple of times), before I mastered getting them to go just far enough and then back
- getting rained on rather a lot while walking around downtown
- having to leave early so I could get home while it was still light out (because I absolutely would NOT be able to drive home in the dark and the rain with no wipers)
- having to pull over on the left shoulder of the 401 in rush-hour traffic today because it started to pour again and my wiper did the snappy thing
- sitting there with my hazards on and trying to figure out how the hell I was going to cross six lanes of traffic in less than a km from a dead stop to get to the closest exit in pouring rain without being able to see _anything_
- sitting for half an hour at a gas station in Pickering while it poured rain, before I went to a Mickey D's to use the bathroom and wait for the rain to lessen a little
- finally having it go from "blinding pouring rain" to "intermittent sprinkles" and hitting #2 instead and driving about 80Km over the next hour and a half because it goes through little towns where the median speed is 60k/h
- really hoping that I was actually on the road I thought I was, considering the fact that my Ontario road map is from the early 90s
- having the rain finally stop in Bowmanville and getting back on the 401
- having the trip home take 4 1/2 hours (normally 2)
but you know what? I had an awesome time (when I was trying hard not to die).
bachelor_girl is the perfect person to go to a show with, because she's the theatre geek and has seen everything and just loves it, and that kind of enthusiasm is wonderfully infectious. and the show itself was wonderfully performed and I was so glad to finally see it (even the nosebleed seats we were in afforded a wonderful view). dinner with
nafs was lots of laughs, as always, and bg and I stayed up way too late using the free wifi at the hotel - which was actually nice, given the incredibly cheap price (seriously, $63 total for the two of us, including tax and parking? insanely cheap). we giggled a _lot_, including this morning when we woke up and realized the power had gone out and I had to shower in the dark. then today we had lunch and did some shopping (I bought a metric assload of magazines because they had a) Petrellicest pictures or b) John Barrowman pictures or c) both.) and I went home and I made it here without dying. it would have been fun if I could have avoided the two hours in the middle of the drive where it was seriously scary, but I'm home, and I have frozen pizza, and there's a new "Supernatural" to watch before I go to bed, and it's good.
and I miss everyone already. we need another visit before you became an alien of extraordinary ability, bg!
