As unfamiliar as I am with programming - I do understand that the more you know and have HANDS ON experience with the better. When you get out of college, they expect you to have experience and will choose another with more hands on experience with more expertise at different programs. I work with a few computer techs that know a little of this and a little of that - training at times are few and far between due to budget constraints. Therefore, they're being phased out in order to pull in contractors who know more than just Microsoft. So from my viewpoint, I can understand your desire to have some tactical experience at what your putting enormous time and effort into. And my dad was a computer tech/programmer, and we had many computers in my house. He put together two and we had some for "homework" type of stuff. That's my spin on things...but I'll think and pray about this and talk to you later.

hm.... ya know, I think you make a dang good argument for a new computer. If you really believe learning Linux will make you a much better programmer person, and that the most effective way of you learning it would be to have it at home with you.......then go for it.

...but of course these are just my thoughts.. lol.
