Liu set to direct in India

Hollywood actress Lucy Liu will be soon visiting India to direct a short film in Mumbai. The actress is turning a director along with the other two actresses of Hollywood - Meryl Streep and Angelina Jolie.

These three ladies will make a four-segment, all-women feature film which will be shot in four continents. Lucy’s segment is on human trafficking and will have the critically acclaimed Indian actress Tannishtha Chatterjee (Brick Lane) in the lead.

The film which is tentatively titled ‘Half The Sky’ will be shot over the next week in Mumbai. This will be first directorial venture for Liu, who has acted in few dozen films and television episodes besides producing few movies.

It is to be shot in four continents beginning with India. Although the fourth director is yet to be finalized, the other three directors are set to go behind the camera; the first one being Lucy Liu. The hush-hush project starts filming in February at undisclosed locations in Mumbai.

Bengali actress Tannishtha Chatterjee, who created ripples with her role of a repressed Bangladeshi wife in Sarah Gavron’s British film Brick Lane, is playing the lead in the Mumbai segment. After the actress was selected in Mumbai among many topnotch hopefuls, she flew down to LA to meet Lucy.

Tannishtha confirms the news saying, “It’s a very big Hollywood project.” She says, “At the moment, I am not supposed to talk about this project at all. If I breathe a word, I will be guilty of breach of contract. So let us just say, I love Lucy!”
