I've been wondering, for years actually, can Christmas shopping kill a person? Well if you go to Walmart, which I've avoided this year, thank God, there's no doubt about your risking your life for someone else's happiness. But even without Walmart, the experience is intense. Everyone is shoving, pushing, bumping, and bruising their way past eachother only to reach that thing they thought was what they wanted but wasn't.
This year has been pretty good, I thought, as I haven't yet been mauled or trampled, and have walked away with only a mild visual disturbance. What's really made it better for me this year has been buying presents for people on the giving tree at the mall. Kristy, whom my sister and I babysit for, has an addiction of gambling, but we won't mention that hehe overpaying us, and, after years of trying to either live with the guilt or return the money, we've devised something to do with the extra cash: give it to charity. The giving tree is really quite fun to do, buying kids clothes and toys is very enjoyable and giving those things to someone who really needs and wants them is great.
So I've pretty much managed to finish all my shopping, save for one thing, and it's probably the first time I was done (or nearly done) before Maura's birthday. I am now content. Mostly because I found my CD case, but I'm a little happy about the shopping thing too.
