Russian-based hackers broke into a major fuel pipeline system recently and tried to force them to pay millions in ransom. Instead, the pipeline people shut it down for a few days to restart it safely. This has resulted in fuel shortages throughout the Southeast (from Texas to the Carolinas) and prices spiking as well as panic buying by consumers.
And it was another example of why owning a hybrid seems so smart these days. Cat might get refueled once every 6 months at this point (or less!) Of course, we're not going out much, but even on normal months with daily commutes to work, she'd go through a half tank of gas a month at most. It's nice to have 2 different options in that way. If electric gets shut off, she still has power from gas! Versatility and resilience are so crucial as we ride through decline, and here is yet another example.
The pipeline shut down didn't happen anywhere near us, but it was a case of "By the grace of God go I."
