Making Salsa For the First Time In Almost 4 Years...

Sep 03, 2019 11:20

I can't believe it's been that long, but-- I was still married with a backyard garden the last time I made homemade salsa! It seems all that practice paid off, though-- as it seems I still have the touch.

Sleep brought perfectly ripe tomatoes and some peppers from Reese's tiny apartment garden. I sat on a tall stool (because-- tired) and got everything I needed and started dicing up everything, including some shallots we had leftover from a purchase of Cat's. A little salt and black pepper and some lime juice were the only other things I used (or had on hand) and when I was done-- it was really fucking good!

I miss the harvest! I miss having a garden to tend and getting to can up the extras. I miss sharing what I cook from my garden too. I really enjoy my own cooking, and I miss this aspect of it, having come to it rather later in life.

I love the wildlife here, but so many deer mean all gardens must be fenced very well, and that's labor and expense we haven't had access to yet. I'm hoping next year we get something figured out though. I don't know if we will-- but I hope this part of life here at Heron House gets figured out soon.
