Reese is here this weekend helping us to do some gardening work and hanging out between times.
We have a spot by the chicken fence in front that we're turning into a "spot garden". Sleep planted Cat's hardy tea plants there, 2 large and a small, that we brought from the Ghost Lake house. Then he got landscaping stone bricks and did most of the weeding of the roughly 12 X 6 foot area. That was last week. Now Reese is helping us finish weeding, laying in compost and weed cloth, and then planting more fun things that will go with tea (like climbing honeysuckle on the fence, rosemary, coneflower, thyme and lavender.)
She got here yesterday and it was raining, so we relaxed and watched Harlots on Hulu. Today, the sun came out, and everything was fresh and clean and green, and I went rolling around the driveway in my wheelchair. Felt GREAT to be out of the house. I've only been going out on the porch, other than a couple of trips when Paradigm was here, so just getting OUT to be in our own yard felt really amazing. It's not good to be cooped up in a house that much, you know?
Tomorrow it'll be 80 degrees-- when it was low 60s just yesterday and 70 today. Talk about a transition from spring to summer!
I've been doing a lot of garden research-- got a great book to add to my beloved small collection of permaculture, forest garden, pagan garden stuff from Paradigm that I've been reading on the porch. It has designs that suggest creating mounds of earth in flowing circles and spirals, but I don't know how much labor I can handle in that regard. Still, who knows? Maybe someday with help.
