MARRAKECH (PART TWO)
I know I said that I'd do a second post for Marrakech, but I'm lazy, so I'm sticking my July wrap up in here too.
I actually don't have too much more to talk about, given that I rambled so much in my previous entry. Other than sunbathing, the only other thing we did was take a trip into the Atlas Mountains. Again, it was my mum and I that did this, my dad said he was "too lazy" to go. We got picked up at around 8 o'clock again, and were loaded onto 4x4s, because there are areas of the mountains that coaches just cannot get to. A lot of the trip was sitting in the 4x4s and looking at the scenery, but we stopped off a couple of times to get pictures of the mountains, and so the guide could explain stuff about the landscape.
the first place we stopped; ourika valley, which the guide said was 'the greenest place in marrakech'
Our second 'photo stop' was a Berber village. Berber translates to 'barbarian', or so the guide told us, but the Berber people are just people who live in the mountains.
a berber village
We went on to actually visit one of these villages later on in the trip, where the family there made us mint tea, and the guide explained to us the ceremony around the tea, and what kind of significance it held for them. The ceremony of tea, it turns out, has largely to do with accepting or refusing marriage proposals (sugar for yes, no sugar for no). The Berber village was really interesting, and they kept goats so there were little baby goats!! I got a picture but they're too little to really see properly :(
We drove further up into the mountains, and there were some really huge ones in the near-distance, I'm pretty sure they were the biggest mountains I'd ever seen.
it was hard to get a decent picture of them, but you get the drift.
We stopped for lunch at a hotel in the mountains, where the food was so nice. The roof of the hotel/restaurant had some really great views of the surrounding mountains.
So there you have it! A very mountain-heavy Marrakech post. Overall I really liked Marrakech, and I'd definitely go again to explore the square and the souks a little bit more.
JULY WRAP-UP.
My holiday to Marrakech took up a lot of July, so I really don't have much else to talk about! I did get my dissertation topic back on the second day of my holiday, though. I'm officially doing representations of male vampires, and I'm actually really excited to start it! I've bought all of my uni books (except for the creative writing ones, but I'm waiting until they explain why we need them) so I'm ~prepared~ but completely lacking in motivation to get started.
Other than that it was really nice to catch up with people I hadn't seen in a really long time, and I'm exicited for my final month of freedom *sheds a tear*
