Better late than ever, huh?
I actually got to re-watching some of the movies before I did this one. Heee. I'm a huge dork.
I cried like a child for the first ten minutes of this movie. When a movie gets that kind of reaction out of someone, you just know it’s doing something right.
This makes my top 5 mostly due to Hellfire/Heaven’s Light being the most underrated song ever. Hellfire is also the one Disney song that is exclusively about sex and lust.
Actually, Hunchback has one of the best scores of the Disney reinassance. For instance, Sanctuary is huge and fucking cathartic. I get that weird feeling in my chest whenever I see Quasimodo at the top of the cathedral with Paris burning below. Everything about this movie is beautiful in some way.
Besides, this film gave us Frollo fangirls. Oh, the wank. The wank. *chuckles fondly*
I think this movie has one of the best Danny Elfman scores of all time. Plus Jack Skellington is one of my favorite characters ever. I know the film has become sort of a simbol for the pseudo-Goth culture but I think it's fantastic either way.
Yes, I do love Beauty and the Beast. And yes, I do think Belle and Beast's romance has ten shades of Stockholm Syndrome. However, Belle was one of the first Disney heroines I could identify with as a little girl. She's a bookworm, socially awkward and feels trapped in her ordinary life. So this movie has a special place in my heart.
Plus that soundtrack. Holy shit.
I think TLK is one of the few animated movies that can be enjoyed as you grow up. There’s no bits where I roll my eyes and think “This is for kids!” and I think that’s because it’s not just a children’s movie but a good movie that both children and adults can enjoy.
And yes, I do ship Simba/Nala even though it’s incest and probably means I’m a furry. Haters should get acquainted with the left evacuation procedure.
Tomorrow: Top 5 Ships.
