Spring Break Recap

Mar 29, 2009 10:07

Wow, it’s been entirely way too long since I’ve updated this thing. So much has happened but I’m not even going to try and go into detail about my spring break extravaganza. Instead there will be little brief recaps of the different cities.

First stop, San Francisco for rowneet wedding. Talk about a fabulous weekend. Kicked off by a bachelorette party on Friday the 13, there was lots of naughty fun in the hotel suite with games, goodies, penis paraphernalia, and an endless supply of alcohol. Let’s just say our bachelorette spent her last night as a single woman with a bang. Did I forget to mention popping champagne in the limo?

The wedding on Sunday was incredible with such gorgeous scenery. Many Jewish traditions were preserved through out the wedding but I thought the breaking of the glass was really cool. And the reception was such a blast. Partly because of the great food and drinks but also for the fun conversation and dancing with new and old friends. Yummy cake and sincere toast from the best man and dude of honor topped off the special night.

And as if the fun had to stop there, we made sure to post party back at the hotel. There were a few cute single guys but I’m not sure what happened to my magic touch. Boo. Maybe I wasn’t drunk enough? Oh well, it was great getting to hang with the family of the bride and groom and the wedding party till 1:00 in the morning.

Vegas, was stop number two on the trip. My first taste of the city happened at the famous In and Out Burger. I know the orginial is in LA but this is the only other location for the famous hamburger joint and I was dying to try it on my list of things to do. Talk about an amazing hamburger! Damn, I wish we had them here in Texas because everything is so yummy and fresh.

The high light here was hanging out on the strip all day. Whew, we did tons of walking but aching feet weren’t going to stop me from having as much fun as possible. There were lots of hotels that we perused through like the Wynn, Venetian, Bellagio, and two others that I can’t remember the name of. Yes, my heart broke when I went into the Jimmy Choo store and tried on sexy shoes that I couldn’t afford. I also managed to walk into the Fendi boutique and lusted after every item but exercised self control when I walked out with nothing. Kind of proud of myself that I wasn’t an impulsive shopper. Maybe it’s because reality is hitting me and the fact that I’m going to have to go get a real job in the very very near future that isn’t going to pay me squat or pay off my debt was sitting in my subconscious.

We celebrated St. Patti’s night by riding on the gondolas in the Venetian which was tons of fun being sung to by a gondolier. She was sooo good and told us that they have to audition for that job. The water was dyed green as well in celebration of the Irish holiday. But my favorite part was dancing my ass off at club Pure in Caesar’s Palace. I hadn’t danced that hard in a very long time and it was so exciting having that amount of energy and adrenaline flowing through my body. I got some shamrock beads and a glow stick necklace from two different guys. It felt good to be validated that I still got what it takes. And might I add that the canes were a hit. We didn’t leave the club till 2 in the morning.

The next evening we returned to see the water show at the Bellagio and do some souvenir shopping at the World’s Largest Gift Shop. I’m not kidding that’s the name of the store and it held true to it’s name. I thought everything was bigger and better in Texas but this wasn’t Texas. Taking lots of last minute pictures and creating a video while we drove down the Strip was really cool as I was able to capture all of the flashy hotel structures and wild lights and signs.

The party continued in Baltimore when froggiespeaks and I went to go see New Kids on the Block in concert. My God, it was such a blast from beginning to finish from getting dressed up in our sexy gear, to stuffing our faces with pizza at the venue, to meeting up with her crazy new friends from the train ride to B town, to shaking our butts and screaming at the top of our lungs, and then topped off with our unsuccessful attempt to get back stage. We got tons of great videos and pictures as it was hard not to when you’re sitting in the ninth row, dead center stage! Youtube will definitely be getting these videos in the near future. Thanks froggiespeaks for going on this unforgettable experience with me. Wouldn’t have been the same without you Love.

To wrap up the trip in Baltimore was the student leadership seminar conducted by the National Association of Blind Students. This seminar was the first to be held and fully conducted by the NABS board. The selected speakers, presenters, discussion group facilitators, all did a fabulous job. The breakout sessions, and philosophical activities were very relevant, practical, and resourceful with lots of information for people to walk away with tools for their tool box to help with strengthening and building their student divisions/chapters.

I’m so proud of the hard work the board put into this seminar as it gave us a chance to connect and network with new students around the country and become more cohesive in our movement as blind students in the NFB. It was exciting and refreshing to meet so many young students with potential for leadership roles to see who is going to take our places on the NABS board while symotaniously giving us a chance to refine our own leadership skills both individually and as a board with this great opportunity.

After this ten day trip I very much was exhausted and worn down. But it was so worth it to commemorate my very last spring break.
