I had plans for the weekend. Do some gardening. See trains.
Weather wasn't really good enough for gardening. Flickums overslept. Decided to see trains on the Bank Holiday Monday.
East Lancashire Railway was doing a 40's weekend.
Still not sure about ticket prices. Bought a rover ticket, which was expensive but did allow for unlimited train rides. At the station were various stalls selling things, and a George Fornby type chap singing. Did people actually enjoy that sort of thing in the 40's?
And there were trains! They had an A4 (Union of South Africa)! I gather it was just visiting. They also had a nice little tank engine zipping up and down. It's blue because it likes to cosplay as Thomas The Tank Engine. Milled around. Took some photos. Then went to the transport museum where there was a singer singing songs.

flickums seemed to enjoy the music. I looked around and saw lots of cool old cars and buses, and a nice model of Bury station.
Caught the train to the next station along where they had made up the station as Nouvion complete with French Cafe. They also had some Allo Allo impersonators. But not much was going on. There was allegedly a display of vintage military vehicles. All could see was a single Jeep. So we got the train back to catch the Winston Churchill Speech and the VE day concert.
Churchill Speech didn't happen. VE day concert was good though. The conductor seemed to want to encourage us to sing along but nobody wanted to be the first.
It was a fun day. Missed a battle re-enactment though. And I really feel I should have dressed up as Captain Jack. I really should have dressed in Captain Jack RAF gear. I felt a little too shy and too lazy, or something.
