When she turned eighteen, she was on the set of Twilight. They were filming the prom scene, and she was finally able to stay on set and keep filming for hours on end. The scene wasn’t wrapped until the early morning. But she didn’t mind. Catherine, Rob, and the rest of her castmates and crew were all there to help her celebrate. They would sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to her between takes, and she finally felt old enough to really belong. She liked having everyone there to celebrate with her. She wasn’t one to celebrate alone; she felt loved with all the people who were rapidly growing more important to her by her side for the occasion.
When she turned nineteen, she was in Vancouver filming New Moon. She and her castmates went out. After all, she could legally drink in Canada at age nineteen. She could laugh and drink and smoke and have fun with the cast, who were her true friends now. Plus Rob, of course, who was more than a friend. She felt even more loved than the previous year; felt even more like she belonged. It was even better than the previous year because everyone wasn’t stuck onset celebrating with her; they had chosen to go out, chosen to commemorate her special day. The paparazzi found out, so she couldn’t walk out with Rob. She left with Jackson instead, tightly gripping his hand as they made their way past the crowd. And despite the intrusion, she stayed in her festive mood.
Now she was turning twenty. She was in LA and, miraculously, not busy filming anything. “Hey love,” Rob said, coming in and wrapping his arms around her from behind. “Where are you?”
Kristen was standing in front of her living room window, staring off into space as she thought. Her mind jolted back from her musings at Rob’s touch, and she leaned back against him. “Just thinking about my birthday,” she said. “It’s the first time we’re not on-set with everyone.”
Rob’s hand slid down to her hips, and he spun her around to face him. His knees bent a bit as he lowered himself to her eye level. “Guess you’re just stuck celebrating with me,” he said.
She finally met his eyes and saw a combination of teasing and uncertainty. She smiled at him and he smiled back, the uncertainty leaving his expression at her look of love and happiness. “Fine with me,” she replied.
And she meant it. She felt more loved being with just him than she did surrounded by friends.
