Kristen took her pack of cigarettes out of her pocket as she walked around the corner of the building. She had just finished filming for the day, and she needed a break. A break from Michael’s phone calls, and Nikki’s clinging, and Catherine’s enthusiasm, and Rob’s - well, she didn’t know why she needed a break from Rob, exactly, but sometimes he looked at her and it made her want more than she should want.

So she needed to clear her head. Taking a solitary smoke break seemed an excellent way to do that. Kristen looked down, lighting her cigarette, and leaned against the side of the building. Then she looked up. She blinked once, looked again, and furrowed her brow. What the hell…

Peter was on the other side of the parking lot. And he was…dancing? Kristen squinted, not trusting her eyes, but no, she was correct. Peter was dancing around the parking lot, arms out as if he had an imaginary partner. He hadn’t spotted her yet, and Kristen debated going over to ask him what the hell he was doing. Everyone liked Peter, Kristen included, but they weren’t particularly close. Peter hung out with the boys a lot, and it was Ashley that he had practically adopted as a daughter.

Kristen had originally wanted some alone time, but now she just couldn’t resist - she had to know what Peter was doing. She walked over and caught Peter’s attention. “Peter?”

He stopped dancing and stuck his hands in his back pockets, giving her an embarrassed smile. “Kristen. Hey.”

Kristen tilted her head. “What are you doing?”

“Uh - I was just - I was, uh, dancing.”

Kristen gave a little laugh. “Yeah, I saw that. What were you, I mean, why are you, you know…” she trailed off, not wanting to offend him.

Peter took his hands out of his pockets as he replied. “Jennie wants us to take dance classes when I get back home. And, you know, you gotta do what the wife says. But she’s had all this training from the whole Dancing with the Stars thing, and I know a little, but I don’t want to be all clumsy and stepping on her toes so I thought I’d practice a little bit.”

His eyes lit with humor. “No one was supposed to see me. I thought everyone left for the day.”

“Oh, right. That’s why you were dancing around the secret parking lot.”

“Hey, come on now,” Peter responded with a grin.

He paused, then said, “So how did I look?”

“Your form was a little stiff,” Kristen teased.

Peter frowned slightly. “Really?”

Kristen bit her lip, considering. She had been joking, but now Peter seemed slightly worried. It was pretty cute that he was practicing on his own, looking like an idiot, simply because he didn’t want to embarrass his wife. “You were okay,” Kristen said. “But - “

Oh, what the hell. She had taken dance classes while preparing for her role as Martine. Not ballroom dancing, but dancing was dancing. She could at least show him how to be light on his feet. Kristen dropped her cigarette to the pavement, snuffing it out with her shoe. “I’ve actually taken some dance classes. I could, you know, help you with your posture and stuff.”

Peter smiled. “Great.”

He held out his hand. “May I have this dance?”

Kristen let him lead their movements. Every so often she would tell him to relax his shoulders, or to step lightly. “Move on the balls of your feet, Peter. Your heels should barely touch the ground.”

And, as they spent half an hour dancing around the parking lot, Kristen found the distraction she had been seeking.
