I'll start off by saying that I really hate Tuesdays. Tuesdays are awful for me because, due to school and work, I end up being on campus from 7:00 in the morning until 6:00 at night. That's a long day no matter how you slice it.
Plus I only got about 4 and a half hours of sleep last night, so I'm kind of in a less-than-chipper mood to begin with. Now that I've established my excuses, on with the bitching.
What's really irking me right now is my paycheck. I got my first paycheck last week for my new job, and I noticed that the hourly rate was $7. First of all, when I interviewed for the job, they said the starting pay rate was $7.25. I know it's only a difference of 25 cents an hour, but that can definitely add up over time. Second, minimum wage in Arizona is $7.25 an hour! Now, I know that state employees do not have to be paid minimum wage. I know that the university is a state agency. HOWEVER. I work for Parking and Transportation services, and all of their programs are paid for by revenue from parking permits, visitor parking, citations, etc. None of their budget is government/taxpayer money (and I looked this up on their website to be certain). Ergo, since my paychecks are not coming out of government money, shouldn't I be making minimum wage? Or does it still count as being employed by the state because of the affiliation with the university? I'm really not sure, and I don't know who I should talk to about this. I don't want to create a stir because I'm an new employee, but I would at least like to be making what they said I would when I interviewed for the position.
Also, the girl sharing a table with me in the study lounge is eating a bagel, and she's smacking her lips and chewing loudly. It's driving me absolutely batty. Who the hell eats like that?! Especially in public. And I was here first! GRRR. I put my headphones on but every time the song changes I can still her lips smacking... and I want to smack her.
(I'm seriously irritable today, can anyone tell?)
