*- Kid and Kaito do NOT sound the same. Before they'd dissociated, Kaito had taken up the habit of halfway mimicking his father's voice on heists to add to the confusion; when the split happened, that "stage voice" ended up being Kid's voice. Their age makes the difference more noticeable, since Kid's voice sounds like he should be in his mid-twenties, while Kaito actually sounds like a fifteen year old.
There are a few points where Kid's voice doesn't properly drop into "his voice" - largely involuntary things, although with Kid's self control obsession, good luck getting a good scream or anything out of him enough to clearly tell that the body-voice isn't his voice. (The trademark insane laughter is an exception and probably all the more striking since it's NOT in Kid's normal octave, but in the body's normal octave, and hence a lot higher pitched than his speaking voice. This mostly registers to other people as "He really is insane O_o".)
*- Their parents were both loons, not like it wouldn't be obvious. Kaitou (long o vowel on end and different emphasis) translates to "Phantom Thief". Kaito has no doubts that his name sounding so close to that was utterly and thoroughly intentional on their part. More than one of the detectives and others who's figured out who he is has abused that to address him as "Kaitou" on civilian days, knowing he'd catch the pronunciation shift; coming from them it's properly identified as annoying smarm - coming from other people, it's likely to unnerve him a little.
*- It's less obvious in English than in their native Japanese, but there's a marked difference in their grammar - Kid tends towards slightly MORE formal language than normal speech, while Kaito tends towards grammar that's just informal enough to be annoying. (Note that Kaito tends to refer to their father - one of the people he has THE MOST respect for - as Oyaji - ...which roughly is "the old man".)
*- Also when they do speak English, it's more British than American English. *cough not like we don't know who to blame cough*
*- Anyone telepathic/empathic can pick up on the fact that there's two of them. Usually the one that's not front is sort of half-conscious until something gets their attention - sort of like they're there, but zoned out, where there might not always be much of a detailed train of though to pick up on. It's probably more obvious empathically, where emotional states tend to "stick" - the train of thought may not be entirely conscious and coherent, but if the one who's not front is miserable or agitated, it'll be noticeably separate from however the one that's front is feeling. They also have noticeably different auras and "feels"; the base background energy is the same, but it's probably about as much in common as reading twin brothers or siblings otherwise. Also, if someone can pick up on auras, the one that's not front would probably register as a second presence underlying the one that is front; that second presence will basically feel half-dormant, getting more noticeably active and present as things get their attention, they make comments, a squabble comes up, or something comes up where the two of them are actively conferring and cooperating on something.
*- Kid has a much better grasp on whatever powers they have - Kaito only really seems to be able to use it on a purely unconscious basis; Kid can intentionally pull things off knowing they go against the laws of reality - Kaito is largely limited to "if he can do it without thinking about it or realizing he's doing it".
