Regarding their success numbers: Firstly, they pick their clients. Secondly, the 85% number is also only for people who "complete" the program. It ignores the over 50% who drop out or are kicked out. It's also based on an entirely self-selected sample - who knows what the response rate to the survey was. It's complete and utter bullshit, not to be given any weight whatsoever when it comes to determining the facts.

Do you truly believe that torture and slavery are appropriate for heroin addicts?

If what I already wrote didn't convince you, then I doubt there's any hope, but here's some more information about the program.

When people drop out of the program, they're left at a bus stop with no phone, no money, no food, no luggage.

They refuse to provide people medical treatment. Unexplained genital bleeding continuing for three weeks? Nah, no need to see a doctor. Fortunately, in this case, her parents were finally allowed to visit, whereupon she begged her mom to take her to the doctor. This particular person had a miscarriage due to a blood type incompatibility with the baby and, had she not received medical attention, might have died.

Have a wound that needs its dressing changed? That's your problem. Need your anti-psychotic meds? Can't have them.

They openly admit that the primary purpose of the program is *not* rehabilitation, but rather is religious conversion. I believe that religious conversion programs should not receive government funding and should not have people ordered to complete them by courts.

If you tell them you're depressed, they tell you it's your fault for not giving your life to Jesus. Want counseling? Too bad - it's not available.
